UNA Fiji Attended the 5-Day Annual General Meeting of The National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF)
Themed "Strengthening Social Cohesion and Reconciliation Among Youths in Fiji," the five-day NYCF AGM, held in Namarai Village, Nakorotubu Ra, was inaugurated by Hon. Assistant Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Ms. Sashi Kiran, and Permanent Secretary for Youth and Sports and Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr. Meli Nacuva. Their presence highlighted the importance of youth leadership in fostering unity and empowerment. Workshops by UNDP, SPC, and FICAC on Social Cohesion, Human Rights, and Corruption equipped youth leaders with essential tools to champion ethical governance and inclusivity.
Distinguished attendees included Mr. Raphael (UNDP) and Ms. Gabriella (SPC), who actively supported these sessions. A Social Cohesion and Peace Mural, signed by participants, symbolized a collective commitment to peace and unity. Representing UNA Fiji, Hon. Secretary Mr. Vipin Maharaj contributed with the words, “Do what you do with Class, Dignity, and Elegance,” embodying UNA Fiji’s values and reinforcing the call for peace and all that peace entails.
The National Youth Council of Fiji (NYCF) has made history with the election of Ms. Laisani Sepo as its first female President and Ms. Selai Rasaqiwa as Vice President, marking significant progress in women's leadership. Elected by nearly 200 youth leaders during the AGM, their appointments represent a milestone for Fiji's youth. The AGM also marked the first amendment to the NYCF Constitution since 2014, aligning the council with the evolving needs of Fijian youth and reaffirming its commitment to their growth and empowerment.
During the AGM, Mr. Vipin Maharaj passed on the mantle of General Secretary for the Youth Assemblies of Fiji to Ms. Finau Talatola, a dynamic leader from Fiji’s friendly north. Mr. Maharaj’s remarkable contributions were further recognized with his election as one of the 30 National Executive Committee (NEC) Members, for the National Youth Council of Fiji board for the next three years.
UNA Fiji extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Laisani Sepo, Ms. Selai Rasaqiwa, on their historic and well-deserved appointments and Mr. Vipin Maharaj for being the newly elected NEC member serving on the board of the National Youth Council of Fiji.
We also acknowledge the invaluable leadership of the outgoing President, Mr. Wiliame Nayacatabu, and thank UNDP, SPC, and FICAC for their continued support in empowering Fiji’s youth.
With Class, Dignity, & Elegance
